About the initiative
Built by commuters,for commuters.
Better Commute Mumbai started with a simple observation: too many people along the same stretch of the city travel the same tiring commute, alone, every single day. This page is about why that matters to us, who we are trying to help, and what we are actually setting out to do about it.

Why this exists
Four things we are working toward.
Nothing about the Mumbai commute is going to change overnight. But there are specific, tangible things we believe a well-planned shared commute along the Western corridor can genuinely move — for the people making that trip and for the road they are making it on.
Reducing commute stress
A commute should not cost you your patience before the workday even starts. We are looking at what it would take to make the daily journey along the corridor calmer and more predictable.
Saving travel time
Hours spent standing in transit are hours taken from sleep, family and everything else. A better-planned shared commute aims to give some of that time back.
Easing congestion
Every solo vehicle on the Western Express Highway adds to the queue everyone sits in. Filling one seated vehicle with several commuters headed the same way is one of the simplest ways to take pressure off the road.
Enabling comfortable shared transport
A guaranteed seat, a fixed departure time and familiar co-riders — not a crowded platform or a different stranger's car every day. That is the standard we are testing for.
Who we're building this for
Anyone who makes this commute.
The Western corridor is travelled by all kinds of commuters, and this initiative is meant for every one of them — not just one type of traveller.
Individual commuters
Professionals travelling the Western corridor daily, on their own, who want a steadier alternative to the current commute.
Office campuses
Employers with clusters of staff arriving at the same campus gate, where a shared commute could serve many people on one predictable route.
Corporate & business parks
Multi-tenant parks where employees from different companies still share the same pickup points and office districts.
Housing societies
Residential communities where neighbours already head toward overlapping office districts every morning, often without realising it.
How we operate
Community-driven, and upfront about it.
We would rather move slowly and stay honest than promise something we cannot yet back up. These are the ideas that guide how this initiative is run.
- 01
Community-led, not top-down
This initiative exists because commuters along the corridor described the same frustrations independently. What gets tested next is shaped by what they tell us through the survey — not by a plan decided in advance.
- 02
Honest about the stage we're at
We are at the research stage. Nothing is on sale, and nothing is promised beyond what the survey data can genuinely support. We would rather be precise about that than overstate where this stands.
- 03
Focused on one corridor first
Rather than spreading thin across all of Mumbai, we are studying a single well-defined stretch — North Mumbai into BKC, Lower Parel, Worli and South Mumbai — properly, before looking anywhere else.
Help us understand the corridor
Your commute pattern is exactly what this needs next.
Two minutes on the survey tells us where you start, where you work, and what your commute currently costs you. That is what turns this mission into a real, tested route.
